Wresting with Bears

Arg. The past ten days have been exhausting!  I’ve been going back and forth between Comcast and my hosting company because this weird bug showed up that prevented me from accessing my website. Since it happened when I installed the new modem Comcast sent me, I thought it was their fault.  Same ‘ol same ‘ol, me bitching about Comcast!  When I didn’t hear back from them, I went to my hosting company for help.

It turns out it was a plugin on the website that suddenly went rogue.  Arg.  What a mess.  So since I’ve been digging in its guts all day, I decided to update my site with a new look! Cute huh?  I love it.

I started strong in NaNoWriMo this year – 2000 words a day for the first 3 days!  Woot!  I guess stress got the better of me and I faltered a bit during the rest of the week.  But given such a strong start, I’ll be able to finish on time.  Thank goodness.  I don’t feel like losing this year!

For this nano I’m writing the second (or third) book after the one I’m working on now –  the working title is “Dreaming in Shadow”.  I knew the major things I wanted to happen in this book, and I didn’t know much more than that.  So having to create this story out of the ether every day has been a challenge and a hoot.  A couple of times I was like “Really?  I don’t know if I like that.”  or “Huh.  That’s interesting.”  I’ve been revising for so long that I’ve forgotten how much I just wing it.  Occasionally I look at all that white space on my computer and get freaked.  How the heck am I gonna fill that with 2000 words today?

I’ve tried to be an outliner – really I have!  But I get so far and then I get stuck.  “What happens next?  Search me.”  It becomes work.  It’s work because I’m not writing it, I’m trying to plot it.  Bleah.  (If it’s work I’m less inspired to stick it out.)  But this process of discovery, this seat-of-my-pants-who-the-heck-knows thing that I do is what constantly keeps me coming back.  I’m looking at that white space sweatin’ what comes next, and then like magic it appears!  Ain’t nuthin cooler than that.

Off to make my 2k for the night!
